At Intuit, we have ~2000 services that are mesh-enabled, spanning across ~300 k8s clusters. It is simple to set up istio custom resource to modify the request at runtime and utilize Service Mesh for a single Kubernetes cluster.The process of educating and empowering thousands of Service Owners to configure Service Mesh resources across ~300 Kubernetes clusters is highly complicated.This presentation will explain how Intuit developed an event-driven configuration abstraction layer for both mesh and non-mesh traffic using Istio's custom objects.This abstraction helps the service owner as they don’t need to keep track of the clusters where client apps are hosted and create/maintain Istio Custom objects to apply any client-side traffic transformations and provide the seamless experience to the service owners.
